Łukasz Kossacki-Lytwyn
Attorney, partner at Hanglung LawAttorney-at-law and partner at Hanglung Law
Łukasz is an admitted attorney-at-law (Polish: adwokat). He litigates, represents clients in proceedings before administrative courts, assists with banking and investment law matters and also helps with the legal issues that can arise at the point where science and industry meet as well as advises on tax law and white collar crime.
He has successfully represented his clients’ interests before the Supreme Court and the Supreme Administrative Court. He has concluded many cases with judicial and out-of-court settlements that proved satisfactory to his clients, providing savings on time and costs.
Łukasz specialises in corporate services related to investment law, e-commerce and legal issues arising at the point of contact between science and industry (in the field of marketing medical products, for example). As defence counsel, he has represented clients’ interests in criminal and fiscal cases (including the so-called vat crime affair). He also has several years of experience in the running of large enterprises acquired as a supervisory board chairman.
In 2015, Łukasz defended his doctoral dissertation in history, which he completed at the Jewish Studies Institute Department of History at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. Given his additional qualifications, he also deals with historical and legal issues, advising on, for example, historical easements and their contemporary relevance for investment risk assessment processes.
He co-created the legal environment for the Eurocash e-market and has worked with Ukrainian entities during the ongoing war.
In his work, Łukasz enjoys finding out-of-the-ordinary solutions to complex problems.
From February 2014 to December 2021, he was associated with the Foreign Law School Coordination Centre at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, coordinating part of the faculty’s Ukrainian programmes. Since 2016, Łukasz has worked for the Ministry of Education and Science as an external expert, serving as a member and secretary of the Deregulation and Legal Transparency Team. Since 2019, he has served as chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Malopolska Regional Guarantee Fund in Krakow. In connection with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he advised Polish entities on the legal and operational optimisation of cooperation with Ukrainian enterprises and institutions (including Huta Łabędy S.A. and local government authorities).
The hardships endured by his grandfather, who served in the military and was imprisoned by the Stalinist regime, had a profound impact on his life and professional work. The story of his grandfather’s arrest taught him that there are no problems without solutions, no form of confinement from which there is no escape and that every problem must be fought to the end. He is proud to have created a home and to have started a family.
Łukasz is the author of over twenty scientific and popular science publications (including a history of the law), two books on local history and the co-author of two popular commentaries, legal guides published by Rzeczpospolita and Dziennik Gazeta Prawna. He has also been a speaker at the largest economic gatherings in Poland, such as the 590 Congress and the Krynica Forum.
He enjoys reading books on the history of social development and economics. He admires Asian innovation and work culture. He is fascinated by South Korea’s economic success, especially in the new technologies field.
Łukasz speaks English and Ukrainian.
